From Suffrage to the ERA: Equity, Resilience, Activism
The Western New York Women’s Suffrage Centennial Celebration Committee is presenting an engaging and transformative seminar featuring noted historian Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner and esteemed panelists who examined the past, present, and future of the women’s movement.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Wagner shared her research spanning two centuries on race, class, and gender. Four panelists will break down specific issues that have impeded women from a fair playing field – economic inequality, violence against women, women’s health and reproductive justice, and women’s underrepresentation in government. The panelists included Dr. Karen King, Erie County Commissioner of Public Advocacy; Ava Thomas, Operations Manager for the Family Justice Center; Shanaz Butt, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia; and Diana Cihak, founder of WomenElect Program and WEPac.

History of Entertainment in Buffalo, from movies to music, theater & beyond
This talk revived the exciting history of the entertainment industry in Buffalo. Are you a movie buff? We talked about the variety of theatres that would have shown everyone from Charlie Chaplin to Cary Grant to the original Star Wars. Is music more your speed? We helped you imagine where you would have sat to listen to the likes of Sinatra, Elvis, the Stones, and the Goo Goo Dolls. From vaudeville to live stage productions, Buffalo has been home to wondrous theatres and other venues which are no longer physically with us but, through this talk, can once again be part of our collective memory.
